Villa Attie: A Harmonious Blend of Design and Nature

Architect Joy Alexandre Harb's Award-Winning Design Merges Comfort and Functionality

Embedded in the natural topography of a mountainous ski resort, Villa Attie, designed by Joy Alexandre Harb, is a testament to the harmonious blend of architecture and nature. The design, which won the Silver A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021, offers a unique living experience with its strategic location, innovative design, and use of sustainable materials.

The inspiration for Villa Attie came from its surroundings. The design aimed to provide a 180-degree view of the rich-in-nature mountain landscape while respecting the land's natural slope. The result is a house that offers great ventilation, daylight, and comfort, seamlessly blending with the landscape.

What sets Villa Attie apart is its unique accessibility from two sides due to its embedded location. The primary access leads to the private spaces of the house, such as the bedrooms, while the secondary access leads to the semi-private spaces, including two living rooms, a TV room, a kitchen, and a dining area. This design strategy creates a balance between privacy and openness, enhancing the living experience.

The construction of Villa Attie involved the use of sustainable materials and technologies. The outer shell is made of Fair face concrete kept at a natural state, and the borders are covered in High Density Concrete Panels (HDCP), a new generation of Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC) that allows for the creation of continuous blocks longer than three meters without any joints. The double-glazed aluminum facade with low emissive glass reduces running costs in the building.

The design of Villa Attie was a collaborative effort involving JYH International Architects, Scuarez Studio for 3D visualizations, P.A.R Consultants for structural engineering, and E.M Projects for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) engineering. The project, which started in March 2021, is set to be completed in November 2023 in Faqra, Lebanon.

Despite the challenges posed by the plot's location between two roads and a corner, the design team managed to create a double access to the house while respecting the city's rules and regulations. The result is a design that not only meets functional needs but also enhances the aesthetic appeal of the landscape.

In conclusion, Villa Attie is a testament to the power of innovative architectural design in creating a living space that is not only functional and comfortable but also harmoniously blends with its natural surroundings. The design's recognition with the Silver A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021 is a testament to its excellence and innovation.
